RESERVES WIN AT ALFRETON
29th September 2005 17:04

Reserves report

Alfreton Town 0 - 4 Mansfield Town
Arnold, Rundle, Heron, Jacobs
28 Sep 2005

I was pleasantly alerted last night (Wednesday) when a mate called me to inform me that Stags were playing at Alfreton Town last night in a Reserve friendly.

So despite the wind and rain, I poked my nose out and toddled off to the Impact Arena, and low and behold outside the Supporters Bar was the Stags Blue Mini-Bus parked outside.

One turnstile open with a welcoming light bulb attracting me to the hole in the wall.

Once inside a warmth grabbed me - a Stags Reserve side warming up!

As a Stags fan I thought this was a thing of the past, I thought we had eleven players on a Saturday and the rest were left to limber up in training and perform superbly when called upon, whether they had played 2 weeks ago or 3 months previous.

Seriously the Stags Reserves turned out a superb performance on a foul night, and fringe players involved all turned in good performances, along with senior youth team players.

Stags won by 4 goals to nil and were comfortable with that scoreline, which could have been even higher.

Briefly the scorers were, Arnold, Rundle, Heron, and Jacobs

Defensively the Stags looked comfortable with McLachlan hardly troubled at Centre Back, the midfield was held together by Lloyd who kept things simple and secure in the torrential rain and wind, and Rundle always looked dangerous on the wing.

Overall a good Stags performance.

White - 7 Hardly troubled but did what he had to when required well
Jacobs 7 Good solid performance and came forward for his goal well
Woods 6 Coming back from injury, did ok
McLachlan 7 Unusually playing Centre Back, did ok, though looked suspect when the ball was played in the air.
Talbot 6 Steady, looked a little suspect at times
Bunny 7 Youth Team player, did well had some good runs
Jones 7 Helped keep midfield tight
Lloyd 7 Kept midfield tight, played it simple and intelligently in conditions
Rundle 7 Looked dangerous in 1st half cutting in from wing
Arnold 7 Led line well in 1st Half
Heron 6 Steady, did ok

Subs used, were Youth Team players, all steady performances in atrocious conditions

Overall Shirty, Dutch and Ivan - you could be pleased with this
