Palmer disappointment for beardsley

Mansfield boss Carlton Palmer believes striker Chris Beardsley was improving his game rapidly prior to suffering the leg break which has restricted him to the sidelines.

Beardsley sustained the fracture during Town's 3-2 home defeat to Notts County and Palmer expects the 21-year-old to be sidelined until at least Christmas.

Palmer said: "I was delighted with the way Beardo was coming along.

"He played ever so well against Stoke, Boston and Notts County.

"But in Adrian Littlejohn I've brought in someone to replace him up to around Christmas time and I think we've found the right person."

CARLTON Palmer strengthened his squad and introduced more much-needed experience today with the signing of veteran striker Adrian Littlejohn on a three month contract.
The 34-year-old former Plymouth and Sheffield United star was a free agent after being released by Rushden and Diamonds at the end of last season.
Palmer said: "We have given Adrian a three month deal to have a good look at him.
"He was supposed to be joining Bristol Rovers, but he knows Richie Barker who put me in touch and, with him still living in Sheffield, we are much better for him travel-wise.
"We need bodies in the club right now and I know that over the years Adrian has scored goals wherever he has been.
"He trained with us this morning and looked sharp and lively."
Born in Wolverhampton, Littlejohn partnered Brian Deane in the Premiership with Sheffield United and played more than a 100 games for Plymouth.
He began his career with Walsall in 1989 before joining the Blades.
He moved on to Plymouth before spells with Oldham and Bury and Port Vale.
Last season he started with Lincoln City but made only nine starts before moving on to Rushden.
Palmer is continuing to look at bringing in a couple more players on loan, possibly before the trip to Rochdale on Saturday.

Mansfield sign forward Littlejohn

Mansfield have signed much-travelled forward Adrian Littlejohn on a three-month contract, with a view to a longer deal.
The 34-year-old is a free agent after leaving Rushden during the summer.

"I wasn't aware that he was available, but Richie Barker brought it to my attention," Stags boss Carlton Palmer told his club's website.

"He lives in Sheffield so travel is not an issue, and has joined us for training where he has looked sharp."

Littlejohn has scored 79 goals in 482 league and cup appearances for eight different clubs.

Littlejohn played in 24 games last season, for Lincoln and Rushden, without scoring a goal. In the season before that, Littlejohn's last six games of the season failed to produce a goal. Hence he has not scored in his last 30 appearances. - Martin
