Striker crisis for Stags
CHAD website, 30 August 2005 MANSFIELD Town were plunged into a striker crisis ahead of tomorrow's transfer window deadline. Matthew Tipton's shock decision to quit Field Mill on Friday was followed by a broken leg for young Chris Beardsley during Monday's 3-2 home local derby defeat by Notts County. That left Carlton Palmer with only two recognised strikers with deadline closing in on him. Assistant manager Peter Shirtliff said; "We are desperately trying to do something before the deadline. "We know we will be without Chris until at least Christmas, even best case scenario, so we want to bring someone in. "We have a couple of irons in the fire - one on a permanent move and one on loan. "But we won't want to rush and make a mistake, It has to be the right one." |
