PALMER: NEIL IS BACK IN THE FOLD
Evening Post, 08 April 2005
STAGS ARE LOOKING AHEAD, REPORTS MARK ROACH

Mansfield Town midfielder Alex Neil looks set to sign a new contract at the end of the season.

After telling him he could leave, Stags boss Carlton Palmer has changed his mind about the 23-year-old Scot.

"He's told me he wants me to wait until the summer to sign a new contract when he knows what his budget will be," said Neil.

"It does represent progress. I was always confident I could find another club, but I want to stay at Mansfield." Palmer added: "I will sit down with him soon and hopefully get something sorted out."

The Stags boss is hoping that Giles Coke and Adam Rundle will sign extensions to their contracts today.

Palmer believes Coke has the potential for a bright future.

He said: "He could be a very good player if he really wants it.

Giles has agreed to his contract and I'm just waiting for Adam's agent to get back to me.

"We've given both players an opportunity and it would be good to see a bit of loyalty."

Palmer admits that the Stags' run-in is effectively an early pre-season campaign.

"I can smell a togetherness in the squad. We've got a lot of young lads and the squad is starting to build nicely.

"Dave Artell was in tears before the game against Grimsby because he broke down in training and is desperate to play.

"Jake Buxton has found out he has got one leg shorter than the other, which is what has been causing his injury problems, but he still wants to play. I need that kind of commitment from my players."

Dave Artell is still missing after twisting his ankle in training.

Adam Eaton should have an operation on his injured groin next week.

Mansfield from: Pilkington, Jelleyman, Buxton, Day, John-Baptiste, Rundle, McLachlan, Coke, Neil, Barker, Brown, McNiven, Herron, White, McIntosh, Lloyd, Dimech.

NO PANIC - BUT POINTS VITAL
Evening Post, 08 April 2005
Yeovil manager Gary Johnson says he is not panicking, despite four defeats in his side's last five games.

The former Conference club - who lost 4-1 against Mansfield at Field Mill in August - have been deposed at the League Two summit by Southend.

They lost 3-1 against Notts County last month and crashed 2-0 at home to struggling Rushden & Diamonds on Saturday.

Their recent run has left them in danger of missing out on the automatic promotion spots, but Johnson said: "When you're playing a team under pressure from relegation like Rushden, it is a different type of pressure to our own.

"But I am disappointed in how low we have got. We didn't create enough chances and didn't show enough quality.

"The next three points are vital."
