Onoura dismisses Stags return
Teamtalk, 7 June 2002 Gillingham's Iffy Onoura has dismissed suggestions linking him with a return to Mansfield, amid increasing speculation over his future. The highly-rated Gills hitman is out-of-contract in the summer but boss Andy Hessenthaler is desperate to keep him at Priestfield having already lost the services of Marlon King. The 34-year-old is understood to want a new two-year deal but the two parties are yet to reach an agreement on terms of a contract despite Onoura's hopes of remaining with The Gills. And reports had linked the burly striker with a return to his former club, rumours which he has described as wide of the mark insisting that he is yet to speak to anyone at Field Mill about a return. Onoura spent a spell with the Second Division outfit during the mid-90s but is confident that he can still perform on a high level in The Gills' push for promotion next season. |
