NO WHEATCROFT FOR THE STAGS
Evening Post, 29 May 2002
FORMER Mansfield Town loanee Paul Wheatcroft will not be rejoining the Stags after agreeing terms with Division Three Scunthorpe.
Wheatcroft, who made two appearances for Mansfield in their promotion-winning campaign, on loan from Premiership Bolton, was mooted as a potential signing amid the uncertainty surrounding Chris Greenacre.
He also scored against Mansfield when the Stags visited Rochdale in September.
The 21-year-old is a former Manchester United trainee.
With the gossipmongers working overtime, manager Stuart Watkiss has been left to issue denials regarding players who may be coming into the club.
Former Stags striker Iffy Onuora and Grimsby's Bradley Allen have been linked with the Field Mill outfit, but Watkiss has dismissed the rumours.
He said: "It's very quiet at the moment and there is no truth that we are signing either of them.
"We are being linked with players all the time but nothing is happening at the moment."
Meanwhile, the club have arranged a lunch on Wednesday August 7, where the guest of honour will be former England winger Chris Waddle.
It will take place at the Pine Lodge Hotel and tickets cost £30.
