BAPTISTE IS NEW CAPTAIN
12th November 2004 21:48

Carlton Palmer has revealed on Mansfield 103.2's Sportstalk this evening that Alex John-Baptiste will be the captain for tomorrow's FA Cup tie with Colchester.

Speaking live to Jason Harrison and Rudi Funk, he said that he felt that Baptiste had the qualities needed for a captain and that he doesn't think that a goalkeeper should be skipper.

He said that he'd spoken to Kevin Pilkington about the situation.

He also revealed that on-loan Stockport midfielder Frazer McLoughlin will be an excellent addition to the squad in the long term whoever is in charge.

He would not be drawn on whether he would be interested in the Mansfield Town job should the position become vacant saying it was neither the time nor the place to discuss it as it would not be fair on Keith Curle a person he knows very well.
