MIDLAND YOUTH CUP ROUND 2
MANSFIELD TOWN 4-0 NUNEATON BOROUGH
Arnold, Rennals, Heron, Lonsdale

THURSDAY 7TH OCTOBER

Report by Gordon Cleugh at Field Mill

Mansfield cruised to an easy 4-0 victory over Nuneaton Borough in the 2nd round of the Midland Youth Cup with 2 goals in each half.

Mansfield dominated from the start and created chance after chance in the opening quarter of an hour and Nuneaton rarely ventured into the Stags half. Indeed, Langford in the Stags goal did not touch the ball until the 17th minute. Nuneaton had a chance to take the lead in the 23rd minute when Barnett failed to make a good contact with a cross from the right.

Stags finally took the lead in the 28th minute when Arnold's 25 yard shot from wide left found the far corner of the net. Stags extended their lead in the 34th minute with a goal from Rennals and went into half time with a 2 goal lead but could have been in double figures if they had taken all their chances.

Nuneaton played better in the 2nd half but Stags extended their lead with a goal from Heron in the 64th minute. Moments later Stags made a triple substitution with Lonsdale, Messam and Parks all coming on.

Lonsdale had a rather speculative shot from the corner of the box in the 70th minute and the keeper under pressure from another Stags player fumbled the ball into the net.

Nuneaton's best chance of the evening came in the 76th minute when a free kick from 30 yards out was tipped over the bar by Langford.
