GANNON AND SLADE REACTION
28th August 2004 20:49

"It was a horrible start again and it sets you back," said assistant manager John Gannon.
"We switched off and it cost us a goal. You have to be on your toes and expect the unexpected.
"It's always hard when you are chasing the game and leaving yourself open at the back.
"There wasn't much between the teams today but they took their chances and we didn't - they were decisive moments.
"We are glad we have the Yeovil match coming up so soon on Monday as it gives us a quick chance to put things right."

Town boss Russell Slade praised his players discipline after a physical battle against the Stags.

"It was important that we keep our discipline. I think they they got five or six yellows today - we've only got two all season," he said. " I don't want us to be too nice though. I think that there was a phase during the game when they tried to rough us a little bit but I think we came through that.

"He had a good look at us on Tuesday and it was interesting how they were going to play," he said. "I think they tried to pass it and try and overload us in midfield, and to also play the three up the front against our three.

"To be honest, in the first ten-fifteen minutes, they couldn't live with our passing game. They then became a little bit physical and tried to put us out of our rhythm - which they did to a certain extent."

And Slade was full of praise for Jason Crowe after he ran through and finished Mansfield off on 85 minutes.

"He stroked it a away like a legend," he said. "He's missed six this season and he's just made that look nonsense," he joked. "
