HANKEY OFF TO SWEDEN FOR 8 WEEKS
4th August 2004 22:38

mansfieldtown.net reports that young Stags striker Dean Hankey set off for a big adventure in foreign climes yesterday. The seventeen year old will be joining Swedish side IFK Mora who are situated approximately two and half hours journey from the capital Stockholm.

He is the first of what could be a number of our promising youngsters going over to Sweden on short term loan deals to help build their confidence and glean some valuable experience from the adventure.

Stags number two, John Gannon explained "I went to IFK when I was his age in 1985 and stayed out there for nine months. Dean is only going on a short term loan of 8 weeks to help them earn promotion.

"They are currently at the top of division 5 with nine games to earn a promotion. Whilst Dean is there he will gain valuable experience in not only football but life he will have to learn how to communicate and overcome the difficulties of the language barrier and about the cultural differences of living in a foreign country.

"As I have said I was there for nine months so am not asking the lad to do anything that I haven't and one of my team mates then is now the assistant manager so he is going to good people. When we offered the opportunity to Dean he jumped at the chance and I believe he will come back a much better player and have a load of new mates that will stay with him for life."
