Mansfield manager Keith Curle was left disappointed by the victory of promotion rivals Huddersfield's at Northampton on Tuesday.

Curle and assistant John Gannon were in the Sixfields stands on Tuesday evening to watch Andy Booth score the only goal of the game and earn the Terriers a 1-0 victory.

Third-placed Huddersfield's three points took them seven points clear of the Stags, who currently lie sixth, and thereby dealt a hefty blow to Mansfield's hopes of achieving automatic promotion back to the Second Division.

But Curle, whose side travel to meet Huddersfield on the penultimate afternoon of the season, said: "We'd obviously like to achieve promotion via the automatic route but if we do it through the back door of the play-offs that won't bother me.

"I'd already said this was going to be a season of twists and turns and I believe there will be some more twists yet.

"We just have to hope the luck goes in our favour."
