YOUTH TEAM BEATEN BY WREXHAM
27th January 2004 10:41

Stags Youth 1 Wrexham Youth 2
Heron.
Report by John Street

Stags Youth Team went down in a muddy battle at Forest Town on Saturday Morning. On a glue pot of a pitch the Stags put in a fine first half display but lost their way in the second half.

Stags went behind early on when they were caught down there left flank and the Wrexham striker stabbed home past Trialist keeper Lukic, the son of the ex Arsenal keeper.

Stags then got organised and Heron went close after being played in by Lloyd when the keeper made a fine block, minutes later Heron was given plenty of time to line up his shot and fired home. Manship then went close with a fine shot which went just over, before Lloyd played Heron through again and the striker was adjudged to be off-side.

The second half however was a damp squib for the Stags, and the game
developed into a scrappy affair, and a long clearance from the Wrexham keeper eluded the Stags centre-backs Woods and Naylor, who had otherwise tidied up well, and the Wrexham striker was quickest to react and followed through to beat Lukic with a fine shot.

Stags:
Lukic, Austin, Woods, Naylor, Holmes, JonesD, Lloyd, Manship, Parks, Hankey, Heron
Subs used: Sleath, Zaccarius.
