Torquay boss Leroy Rosenior hailed the performance of first half goal hero Matthew Hockley.
Rosenior, who believes Hockley is developing into a real find for the club, also praised opposite number Keith Curle but believes his side deserved the points after creating the best chances.
"It was great for Matt Hockley to get another goal, especially with his left foot," said Rosenior. "I've said all season, and it's no secret, that I like the way he plays and I think he does a fantastic job for me.
"He's growing in confidence and I think he deserves all the plaudits this evening for being the match winner.
"I expect Keith Curle will be pleased with the way they played but they didn't really hurt us.
"I'm delighted with the win because we deserved it as we created the better chances, especially in the second half. All credit must go to Mansfield because they came down to play football and to give us a game and that's exactly what they did."
