Sandwiched in between the league fixtures is an LDV Vans Trophy game between the Stags and Stockport.
The teams met in league fixtures as late as last season when Stockport were VERY lucky to win the home tie 2-0 after being outplayed most part of the Edgeley Park fixture and the Stags gaining revenge on Boxing Day 2002 by winning 4-2 at Field Mill, this being the third win in a row under Keith Curle. Stockport stayed up thanks to a late rally last season – after long time fighting with the Stags in the relegation zone and this season haven't started too well for the Chesire Hatters as well – and Stockport are among the teams who have already sacked their manager. Carlton Palmer got the axe some weeks ago – as usual, lack of results was the reason for the sack. In their latest league fixture, Stockport came back from being 1-0 down by the stroke of half-time to gain a morale-boosting 2-1-victory at Swindon, thus preventing the 1993-94 Premiership side from getting into the auto promo places in division 2.
