Stagsnet report by John Street

Stags continued there supporting local clubs around our initial community by sending a very youthful side to Glapwell Town last night for a pre-season friendly.

With the first team squad all going to be in action tonight the Stags played safe by sending there new intake of first years stiffened only by promising second years providing the experience!, against a strong Glapwell Town squad.

Glapwell were physically stronger and impressed with there football, and initially there proved no way through for the Stags.

There was occasional chances for the Stags with Ryles putting in a low hard cross which the Glapwell defender deflected onto his post,Mulligan slipping clear but firing poorly at the keeper, and Lloyd slipping two defenders and then being hauled to the ground had there penalty claims waved away.

Glapwell took the lead after the half hour with a looping header, and the Stags turned around 1 - 0 down.

The second half saw changes for the Stags and at some stages they had Eight players who were 16 year olds on the pitch, with only Coates, Jones and Lloyd from the second years on the field.

Further chances fell to the Stags with Sleath nearly getting on the end of provided chances created by Chris Howard and Lloyd from midfield.

Coates in the Stags goal was pulling off a fine display of saves, and could not be at fault for further Glapwell strikes a penalty conversion following a handball, and a late strike when the Stags defence were well stretched.

Overall, a good performance from the Very Youthful Stags against a strong Glapwell side.
