Mansfield Town visit Stamford AFC this evening. Stamford are in the Evo-Stik Northern Prem 1st Div South, the same league as Stocksbridge, Basford and Carlton. Stamford are known as the Daniels, after Daniel Lambert, reputedly the fattest man in English history, who died in the town. The ground, the Zeeco Stadium, is new and only opened in 2014 after their previous ground was turned into a housing estate. Steve Evans of course started his managerial career at the club in the mid 90’s leading them to 2 titles.

As announced by Steve Evans yesterday, it is a youthful Stags side tonight with very few senior players. The only senior players are keeper Bobby Olejnik, Jack Thomas, young Lewis Collins who has been training with the first team, and trialist Jordan Slew.

Stags (4-4-2):
Bobby Olejnik;
Kane Baldwin, Brad Peace-McDonald, Keiran Harrison, Henry Wilder;
AJ George, Lewis Collins, Jack Thomas, Zayn Hakeem;
Jordan Slew, Tyler Blake.

Former Stag Jon Challinor is the Stamford captain

Steve Evans has arrived, and joined Paul Raynor, Lee Taylor in the stand. Mike Whitlow, Richard Cooper and John Dempster are in the dugout.
2 mins AJ George shot blocked
4 mins Lewis Collins fired in a left footed curling effort from 24 yards but straight at the keeper.
7 mins Good play from Slew to set up Tyler Blake but he lost the ball before getting in a shot.
8 mins Good play from Tyler Blake laying off to Slew whose shot from 10 yards is parried up in the air by the keeper and then caught. One way traffic so far.
9 mins First chance for Stamford. A cross from the right and centre half Sam Hill headed wide.
11 mins 1-0 Jack Thomas gives away a foul a yard outside the area. Bad place to give away a free kick. GOAL: Jack Jeys curls into the top left corner for a great goal. Stamford 1-0 Mansfield
21 mins Harrison and McDonald allow a ball through to Jeys who, with just Olejnik to beat, chips over the bar.
25 mins 1-1 GOOD GOAL. Tyler Blake blasts into the right corner of the net from 16 yards. Good shot.
28 mins Lewis Collins scuffs a shot from 20 yards straight at the keeper.
31 mins AJ George gives away a free kick on the edge of the box. Jeys has now gone off injured, so Danny Draper takes it and his shot is deflected wide by the wall.
34 mins 2-1 Brilliant goal as John King sends a left footed shot over Olejnik into the net from the right hand side. Don’t think you can blame the keeper for that.
37 mins Slew lays off to Jack Thomas whose first touch is good and sets up a chance to shoot, but he fires wide of the right post from 25 yards.
39 mins AJ George’s dinked free kick from the left to the far post is just missed by Brad Peace-McDonald drifting in at the far post.
40 mins Sub Gordon creates space for a shot on the edge of the box, and Olejnik makes a tremendous diving save to his left tp turn it around for a corner.

HT Stamford 2-1 Mansfield. Stamford have edged the first half against a youthful Stags team at the Zeeco Stadium. Mansfield dominated the opening 10 minutes, but Stamford took the lead with a great free kick after Jack Thomas had given away a foul. Stamford then got on top, but the Stags levelled when Tyler Blake fired in a good shot from 16 yards. Stamford re-took the lead on 34 minutes with a cracking shot over Bobby Olejnik from the right. Overall fairly even, but the non-league step 4 side have their noses in front. The more senior Stags outfield players, Thomas, Collins and trialist Slew, have not really stood out, as they would have hoped to have done. Bobby Olejnik made one tremendous save.

50 mins A great bowl out from Olejnik all the way into the Stamford half for Slew, but he loses the advantage.
52 mins Good play from Thomas, to set Slew away and Slew wins a free kick in the Stamford half, which comes to nothing.
54 mins A good interception by Wilder, but his ball forward is overhit.
55 mins Kane Baldwin’s ball over the top puts Jordan Slew in a 1-1 with the keeper, but the keeper blocks his shot. The ball eventualy comes out to Thomas who curls a shot over the bar.
56 mins sub Nyle Blake for Zayn Hakeem
61 mins sub Cameron Healey for Lewis Collins
Steve Evans has seen enough and is off.
63 mins Tyler Blake turns in the area and fires a shot straight at the keeper from 12 yards.
65 mins Two good pieces of defending a minute from Stags centre half Keiran Harrison.
68 mins Very good save by Olejnik at the feet of Stamford striker without a number on his shirt (who we think is Elliott Sandy).
70 mins Sub Jason Law for AJ George
73 mins The Stamford striker without a number on his shirt (who we think is Elliott Sandy) goes past Olejnik but the angle is too tight for him and he shoots into the side netting.
74 mins Sub Jordan Smith for Tyler Blake
75 mins Henry Wilder clears off the line a header from a Stamford corner
15 minutes to go, not much sign of a Stags equaliser. Still Stamford 2-1 Stags.
76 mins Stamford go close as Stamford no.12 Gordon heads just wide from a free kick. A minute later the same player is stretching at the far post and just unable to turn in a cross.
80 mins GOAL 3-1. Stamford get a deserved 3rd goal as Danny Draper fires into the bottom right corner of the net from 16 yards. No chance for Olejnik.
82 mins Jason Law crosses from the right and Stags centre half Brad Peace-McDonald heads down into the ground and into the keepers arms.
83 mins A double save by Olejnik, as he pushes away a low cross, then saves a shot from 10 yards. Singing now coming from the home terrace behind the goal.
84 mins Cameron Healey completely scuffs a shot from the edge of the box for the Stags.
85 mins Stamford are right on top. Another free kick right on the edge of the box. Draper curls towards the top corner and a brilliant save by Olejnik to tip it wide. Olejnik is keeping the score down.

FT Stamford 3-1 Stags

Evo-Stik Northern Prem 1st Div South side Stamford comfortably beat a youthful Stags team 3-1 at the Zeeco Stadium this evening. It was 2-1 at the break and fairly even but in the second half Stamford were much the better side and deserved to extend their lead. Indeed, Stags keeper Bobby Olejnik made some fine saves to keep the score down. The more senior Stags outfield players, Jack Thomas, Lewis Collins and trialist Jordan Slew, did not stand out at all, as they would have hoped to have done. Keiran Harrison impressed in defence, and Tyler Blake scored a fine goal for the Stags in the first half. Overall, very disappointing stuff from the Stags.
